As a travel photographer, i have had the opportunity to visit many incredible destinations around the world. however, one place that has always held a special place in my heart is hampi, india. known for its stunning ruins and rich cultural history, hampi is a photographer's dream come true.
the ruins of hampi are a unesco world heritage site, and for good reason. located in the state of karnataka, hampi was once the capital of the vijayanagara empire, one of the most powerful empires in indian history. today, the ruins are spread out over a vast area, with temples, palaces, and other structures dotting the landscape.
as a photographer, one of the things that i love about hampi is the incredible light. the sun rises early here, and if you're willing to get up before dawn, you can capture some truly breathtaking images. one of my favorite spots is the matanga hill, which off ers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. from here, you can capture the fi rst light of the day as it illuminates the ancient ruins below.
another great spot for photography is the vittala temple, one of the most famous temples in hampi. this temple is renowned for its intricate carvings and stunning architecture, and it provides an incredible backdrop for photography. the temple is especially beautiful during sunset, when the warm light of the setting sun bathes the ruins in a golden glow.
of course, hampi is not just about the ruins. the surrounding landscape is also incredibly photogenic. the tungabhadra river runs through hampi, and there are several spots along the riverbank that are perfect for capturing the natural beauty of the area. i especially love the area near the sanapur lake, where you can capture refl ections of the surrounding landscape in the still waters of the lake.
finally, no trip to hampi would be complete without visiting the hampi bazaar. this bustling market is a photographer's paradise, with colorful stalls selling everything from spices to saris. the market is especially lively in the early morning, when vendors are setting up their stalls and locals are going about their daily business.
overall, hampi is an incredible destination for travel photographers. whether you're interested in capturing the beauty of the ruins or the vibrancy of daily life in india, there is something here for everyone. i highly recommend adding hampi to your travel photography bucket list – you won't be disappointed!
